General Questions

  • Who will provide my massage?

I will. Mellow Muscles Massage is a solo practice, so when you schedule an appointment, you work directly with me, Shawn.

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in both Texas and New Mexico and a recent graduate of the Massage Therapy Center. My education included more than 650 hours of coursework, hands-on training, practical experience, and client interaction.

  • What massage services do you offer?

I offer a broad selection of massage and wellness services, including:

    • Swedish Massage
    • Therapeutic Massage
    • Deep Tissue Massage
    • Sports Massage
    • Hot Stone Massage
    • Reflexology
    • Lymphatic Drainage Massage
    • Pregnancy Massage
    • Red Light Therapy

Each service offers a different experience. You can explore the individual service pages to learn more about each option before booking.

  • Do you personalize massage sessions?

Yes. Personalized care is at the center of my approach.

Your selected service, comfort, pressure preferences, areas of focus, and goals can all influence your experience. I do not believe every client should automatically receive the same massage routine.

Communication helps me understand what you want from your appointment.

Choosing the Right Massage

  • How do I know which massage to choose?

Start by thinking about the type of experience you want.

If relaxation is your main priority, Swedish Massage or Hot Stone Massage may interest you. If you prefer focused massage work, consider Therapeutic Massage or Deep Tissue Massage.

If you have an active lifestyle, Sports Massage may better align with your goals. Expectant clients can explore Pregnancy Massage, while Reflexology, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, and Red Light Therapy provide additional wellness options.

You do not need to be an expert on massage techniques before booking. The individual service descriptions can help you compare your options.

  • What is the difference between Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage?

Swedish Massage generally emphasizes smooth, flowing techniques and a relaxation-focused experience.

Deep Tissue Massage uses more focused techniques and deeper pressure where appropriate. If relaxation is your priority, Swedish Massage may be a natural starting point. If you prefer more concentrated work and deeper pressure, Deep Tissue Massage may better match your preferences.

  • Is Sports Massage only for athletes?

No. You do not have to compete professionally or even consider yourself an athlete.

Sports Massage can be explored by people who exercise regularly, participate in recreational sports, train toward fitness goals, perform physically demanding work, or simply maintain an active lifestyle.

  • Is deeper pressure always better?

    No.

More pressure does not automatically make a massage more effective or appropriate for you. Your comfort, preferences, selected modality, and goals all matter.

If you prefer deeper work, Deep Tissue Massage is available. However, I still encourage communication about how the pressure feels throughout your session.

Before Your Appointment

  • What should I tell you before my massage?

Let me know about relevant preferences, areas you would like me to focus on, and anything that may affect your comfort during the appointment.

Depending on the service you choose, other information may also be important. Clear communication helps me provide a more personalized experience and determine whether anything needs additional consideration before beginning.

  • What if I have a medical condition or recent surgery?

Massage therapy is not a replacement for medical care.

If you have a medical condition, recent surgery or procedure, injury, pregnancy complication, or another health concern that could affect whether massage is appropriate, consult an appropriate healthcare professional before scheduling when necessary.

This is particularly important if you are considering a specialized modality such as Lymphatic Drainage Massage because of a medical or post-procedure situation.

  • What if I am pregnant?

I offer Pregnancy Massage for expectant clients.

Because every pregnancy is different, relevant health concerns and guidance from your prenatal healthcare professional should be considered. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, complications, or uncertainty about whether massage is appropriate, speak with your healthcare professional before booking.

During Your Massage

  • Can I ask for the pressure to be changed?

Yes. I encourage you to communicate about pressure and comfort.

You do not need to remain quiet if something feels too firm, too light, or otherwise uncomfortable. Your feedback helps me adjust the experience when appropriate.

  • Can I request focus on certain areas?

Yes. If there are particular muscle areas you would like prioritized, tell me before your massage.

The service you select and the amount of appointment time available can influence how the session is approached, but knowing your priorities helps me better understand what you want from your appointment.

  • What if I am new to professional massage?

    That is perfectly fine.

You do not need previous massage experience to schedule an appointment. If you have questions about what to expect, I encourage you to ask. My goal is to make the experience approachable and help you feel comfortable communicating your preferences.

No. Reflexology focuses on specific areas of the feet and provides a different experience from traditional full-body massage modalities.

  • Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage deep pressure?

No. Lymphatic Drainage Massage uses specialized, gentle techniques. If you want deeper, focused massage work, Deep Tissue Massage may be more aligned with your preferences.

  • Is Red Light Therapy a massage?

No. Red Light Therapy is a separate wellness service and does not use hands-on massage techniques.

I offer it alongside my massage services so clients have another option to explore as part of their personal wellness routine.
